D.M. Neonatology or Doctor of Medicine in Neonatology is a
post-Doctoral medicinal course. Neonatology is a sub-specialty of pediatrics
that consists of the medical care of newborn infants, especially the ill or
premature newborn infant. D.M. (Neonatology) provides advanced training in
Neonatology to produce competent super-specialists who are able to provide
clinical care of the highest order to the newborn infants, and serve as future
teachers, trainers, researchers and leaders in the field of Neonatology. This
is three years duration course and it is career orienting in nature that opens
many job scopes for them after completing it.
Job Prospect:
Neonatologist is a medical practitioner specifically trained
to handle the most complicated and high risk problems of new born babies.
Neonatologists are expert in handling a premature or a newborn with some
serious illness, disorder, injury or defect at the time of birth. These experts
are also responsible to give consultation to obstetrician if there is some kind
of problem detected even before the actual birth.
Increasing case of High Blood Pressure and Diabetes in the
pregnant women in urban society, under nutrition and lack of awareness in the
rural areas result in higher number of pre mature births require urgent need of
Neonatologists. The cases are increasing with passing time and there are
expecting to multiply who will require immediate attention from the expert.
This spurt increase in the pre mature babies that too with severe complications
has increased the demand of trained Neonatologists.
