SURGICAL Gastroenterology is a branch of medicine that
covers all surgeries pertaining to hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal parts of
human body inclusive of SURGICAL oncology and pancreatic SURGERY for cancers on
liver, colon, stomach, etc. M.Ch. in SURGICAL Gastroenterology is a SURGICAL
specialty course.
M.Ch. in SURGICAL Gastroenterology course is three years,
which is normally offered under residential system in most of the colleges.
This indicates that candidates will have to stay in the college hostel during
the course period irrespective of their residential area. During the course
period, candidates will be offered with sound knowledge of SURGICAL,
investigative, diagnostic and clinical aspects of gastroenterology. Candidates
will be responsible for taking care of the patients in the specific department
under the supervision of faculty members and they are also made to participate
in research activities as a part of course structure.

A Gastroenterologist works with patients to treat, control,
and manage a wide range of conditions. Some of the many conditions diagnosed
and treated by Gastroenterologists include acid reflux disease, hemorrhoids,
hepatitis, ulcers, hernias, and many more. Gastroenterologists must be able to
diagnose the signs and symptoms of all digestive diseases and perform all the
appropriate diagnostic tests.
Gastroenterologists first train to be physicians before
getting further training in treating the digestive tract. The field of
specialized medicine tends to be a lucrative one and prospective
gastroenterologists can expect to make a good salary if they are skilled.
The responsibilities of a gastroenterologist are many and
varied. In general, they have many of the same duties as a regular doctor,
except that they have full and further knowledge of the digestive system,
including any possible diseases and the proper treatment for each one. The
primary duty of a gastroenterologist is seeing to the welfare of the patient,
much like any other medical professional or specialist.
