Founded by M.H. Jayprakash Narayan in 1979, and named after Dr B. R. Ambedkar, the institute is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum and is accredited by AICTE. The institute is one among the 14 colleges selected for receiving the World Bank Assistance under Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) through Government of India. Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur popularly known as SIT established in the year 1963, is one among 132 institutions run by Sree Siddaganga Education Society, headed by His Holiness Dr. Sree Sree Sivakumara Swamiji, a centenarian. Sree Sree Swamiji is shouldering the onerous responsibility of providing free food, shelter and education to over 9000 children drawn from the poor sections of the society without discrimination on the basis of caste, creed or community at Sree Siddaganga Gurukula. In addition to this, Swamiji receives thousands of pilgrims and devotees everyday. He looks after the affairs of more than 130 educational institutions and even at the age of 106 years, Swamiji works 18 hours a day.

SIT campus is spread over 50 acres and the whole area is landscaped and is lush green. Tumkur enjoys the same salubrious climate as that of Bangalore.

At the time of inception, the institute was offering only 3 branches namely Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering with a total annual intake of 120.

The institute is now offering 12 UG programmes with a total annual intake of 890 and 12 PG Programmes with a total annual intake of 360.

14 departments of the institute are recognised as research centres by Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, where students can register for Ph.D programme and M.Sc. by Research. 91 research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D degree in our research centres and so far 24 research scholars have obtained Ph.D degree from our research centres.

All the departments in the institute have well equipped laboratories. The institute has over 1900 computers and are located in 29 Computer Centres which are all networked with fibre optic backbone. Round the clock internet facility is provided to all the Computer Laboratories, Faculty Chambers, Hostels, Class Rooms, through 40 Mbps leased line.

The total number of students in the campus is over 4200 and more than 50% of the students stay in seven of our hostels.

The institute has 280 well qualified and experienced faculty members out of which 75 are Ph.D holders and 208 are Masters Degree holders. 60 more faculty members are pursuing their Ph.D programme in IISc, IITs and other reputed universities.

Admission Details

  1. Selection and admission will be provisional and is subject to the norms / provisions made applicable by the Government of Karnataka / MCI / Rajiv Gandhi University of health Sciences, (Karnataka).
  2. Selection intimation letters are to be surrendered to the College office at the time of paying the fees. The date of commencement of class will also be mentioned in the letter.  Candidates who are continually absent shall forfeit their admission as well as fees.
  3. Admission secured on the basis of false information shall stand cancelled and fees forfeited,
  4. All communications with office in connection with the application can be entertained only when the registration number is quoted.  Any additional communication required by the candidate will be given only if a self addressed and stamped envelope is provided
  5. Admission granted is provisional subject to the submission of the following documents:-
    1. Proof of payment of all fees payable to the institution.
    2. Date of Birth Proof Certificate.
    3. Submission of Eligibility certificates from the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka in case of Non Karnataka Students.

Eligibility Criteria
A.     I.   Two years, PUC examinations conducted by the PUE Board, Karnataka State with English as compulsory subject and   Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects or any other examination recognized as equivalent by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka.
OR
II. Intermediate examination in Science of an Indian University / Board or other recognized examining body with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, Which shall include a practical test in these subjects and also English as compulsory subject.

III. First year of the Three year Degree course of a recognized University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology including a practical test in these subjects provided is a university examination.

IV.  B.Sc. Examination of an Indian University, Provided that he / she has passed the B.Sc. examination with not less than two of  the following subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology) and further that he / she has passed either the qualifying  examination with the following subjects :- Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
OR
V.  Any other examination with scope and standard is found to be equivalent to the intermediate science examination of an University / Board, taking Physics, Chemistry and Biology including a practical test in each of these subjects and English.

B.     I. Candidate must have obtained not less than 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together in the Qualifying   examination.  In the case of Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe candidates, the minimum marks shall be 40% in lieu of 50% for general candidates.

II. The candidate should have completed 17 years on or before 31st day of December of the year admission.

C.   Admission of the candidate will be subject to the rules and regulations of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka / Medical council of India in Force.

D.   NRI & FOREIGN students who seek admission into the College must produce:

Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences – a Deemed University was granted this status by the University Grants Commission in 2005. Its Chancellor is Hon’ble Shri Dattaji Meghe and its founder Vice-Chancellor is Dr. Ved Prakash Mishra. It is the first self funded University of this region and another feather was added to its cap when it was accredited with an “A” grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) which is an autonomous body set up by the University Grants Commission. The University is focusing on research and the pointers towards its growing esteem in this regard are the B.C. Roy Award for Research which was conferred on the University by Her Excellency Shrimati Pratibha Patil, the President of India on the occasion of the ‘Teacher’s Day’ and also the indexing of its house journal in only its third year of existence thereby becoming only the second Deemed University in the country to be worthy of this honour inspite of being located in a rural area. Admission Details

  1. The candidate should Be an Indian National and should have completed 17 years of age on or before 31st December of concern academic year.
  2. Candidates seeking admission to the MBBS/BDS/BAMS course, who have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSSC) examination/(10+2) or the Indian School Certificate (ISC) Examination or Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Examination or any other examination equivalent to (10+2) HSSC examination of any recognized Board/University, from any school/college situated in India after 12 years of study with a minimum of 50% (i.e. 150 out of 300 marks) in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and passes English subject, shall be eligible to appear at the All India Pre-Medical Entrance Test namely DMIMS AIPMET for admission to the said course.
  3. Admissions to this course will be done on the basis of inter se merit of the successful candidates at the All India Pre-Medical Entrance Test namely DMIMS AIPMET.
  4. The candidates who do not fulfill the above prescribed requirement are advised not to submit their application forms.
  5. If a candidate does not fulfill the prescribed eligibility, mentioned above, he/she shall not be placed in the Merit List for admissions.
