Admission of Private Candidates
Applications are invited from the following types of candidates, appearing for Higher Secondary Examination to be held in September/October 2009.

1. Regular Private candidates (H type application to be used)
Candidates who had once appeared for the Higher Secondary Examination and failed or absented themselves may apply for the failed subjects only under the Syllabus introduced in the year 2005 - 06. The school pupils who absented themselves for all the theory subjects should obtain a certificate from the heads of institutions where they studied last to the effect that he/she had completed the course by putting required percentage of attendance.

2. Non Pupil Private (Direct Private) candidates (HP type application to be used)
Candidates declared eligible for University courses of study in the SSLC Public Examination or those who secured 35% of marks in each of the subjects in SSLC or equivalent examination can apply under this category, subject to the following conditions.
The candidate should not have appeared earlier for the Higher Secondary Examination or equivalent examination either in this State or other States.
The candidates must be completing 16 1/2 years of age on the 1st day of September 2009.
There must be a minimum of 2 years gap from passing SSLC or equivalent examination. (For September/October 2009 Examination, those who have passed SSLC or equivalent examinations in September 2007 or earlier sessions can apply)
Candidates from other states should obtain a Migration Certificate from their Education Board and enclose the same in original along with the application.
The candidates should apply for all the six subjects for the examination (i.e.,) Languages Part I, Part II and a group of four optional subjects not involving practicals (Details of Groups at Serial No.ll)
No Transfer Certificate will be Issued by This Department, Only Mark Certificate will be Issued.

Direct Private candidates and candidates who have failed in Languages Part I and Part lI under Old Syllabus (prior to March 1997) and applying now should remit additionally Rs.2/- for conducting Aural-Oral Skill Test in Paper II of Languages under Part I and Part II.
I. Issue of Blank Application Forms:
Application forms can be had from 03.08.2009 (Monday) to 05.08.2009 (Wednesday) in person on any working day between 10.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. from the following offices.

Candidates applying for the above examination should adhere to the conditions of the examination given in detail in the instructions to the candidates.
Failure to comply with the instructions will result in the summary rejection of the application.

Application received after the due date will not be entertained. Candidates should not send their application to the Head Office.

I. Important Instructions
Change of group not permissible for once appeared candidates:
As per the Higher Secondary Examination Scheme in vogue, Change of group/subjects will not be permitted under any circumstances.
Private candidates are therefore informed that they have to reappear only in the failed subjects under the group last studied/appeared.

II. About the Syllabus:
September/October 2009, Higher Secondary Examination will be held under the syllabus introduced during the academic year 2005-2006.
Direct Private candidates:
Direct Private candidates will be admitted in any one of the following five groups of subjects only, in addition to Part I and Part II Languages only under the syllabus introduced in the academic year 2005-2006.

III. Attestation on Application Forms:
The Private candidates are informed that they have to submit their application forms after getting attestation for the Photograph on the application (including Hall Tickets) only from the Headmaster of the School where the candidate had studied last.
Candidates who have passed X std. as Direct Private candidates and now applying as direct private candidates(HP) are instructed to get the attestation in the application as well as in the Hall Ticket from the Headmaster of the school last studied or Headmaster of High/Higher Secondary School nearer to his place of residence. (The Headmasters can attest in the application forms only after verifying personally the genuineness of the candidates with the help of local people).
Important Note: Applications attested by Gazetted Officers other than the Headmasters will be summarily rejected.

IV. Selection of Examination Centres:
Candidates should select any one of the places of examination given in the list attached to the application and mention the same in the application form, without fail.

V. Remittance of Examination Fees:
All private candidates (except those residing in Chennai district) should remit the examination fees only by chalan in Government Treasuries.
Chennai district candidates may remit the examination fees, by means of Demand Draft or Banker's Cheque obtained from any Nationalised bank drawn in favour of "Director of Government Examinations, Chennai 6".

VI. Fixing of Minimum Pass Marks Separately for Theory & Practical Examinations in the Practical Involved Subjects:
Candidates failed in the subjects involving practicals must secure 30 out of 150 in Theory and 40 out of 50 in Practicals to get pass in the subject.
This system is also applicable to those who appeared for the Higher Secondary Examination held in September 2006 and earlier sessions.
Private candidates who have already secured the minimum pass marks as mentioned above in Practical exam in their earlier appearances need not redo the Practical Examination now.
Candidates who have not secured the minimum of 40 marks in Practical Examination should necessarily appear for both theory and practical examination in order to pass the same.
Further, candidates who appeared prior to March 2001 examination and applying now for Practical involved subject(s) should get a certificate indicating the practical marks from the school where they studied and enclose alongwith their application.
In case of non-production of such certificate by the candidate, he/she should appear for the Practical examination.

VII. Aural / Oral Skill Test:
The following categories of private candidates will be admitted for the above test.
All direct private candidates (HP Category)
Regular private candidates who have once appeared and failed in Part I & II Languages under the Old Scheme of Higher Secondary Examination (Prior to March'97).
For Paper II under Language Part I and Part II, 20 marks have been allotted for Aural/Oral Skill Test. Aural/Oral Test will be conducted at the respective examination centres by the Language teachers after the theory examinations are over.
Advanced Language (Tamil) Aural / Oral Skill Test Aural/Oral Test will also be conducted for the subject Advanced Language (Tamil). Hence
Candidates who have once appeared and failed in Advanced Language(Tamil) upto September 2006 Session and
Direct Private candidates applying under Group Code 307, in which Advanced Language (Tamil) is one of the subject must necessarily appear for Aural/Oral Test in Advanced Language (Tamil).
The Aural/Oral Test conducted at the examination centres will be final and the marks obtained in the first appearance will be taken into account for further appearances if any. There after the candidates will not be permitted to redo Aural/Oral skill test under any circumstances.
Candidates have to attend the Aural/Oral Test on the specified dates as announced by the Chief Superintendent of the examination centre. If they fail to attend the Aural/Oral Test, they have to loose 20 marks prescribed for the Aural/Oral Test and the marks obtained in Theory Paper alone will be entered in the Mark Certificate.

VIII. Other State Candidates:
The candidates who have studied in other states and apply as "Direct Private candidates" should submit the Migration Certificate obtained from the State Board where they had studied alongwith the S.S.L.C., Certificate and Transfer Certificate in original.
Candidates who have already appeared for Higher Secondary Examination conducted by any other Board cannot apply under this scheme.
