Law Entrance Exam :: CLAT 2010

Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a centralised test for admission to prominent National Law Universities in India. The test is taken after the 12th grade for admission to graduation (also known as Bachelors) courses in Law.

This exam was conducted for the first time on May 2008. A total number of 1037 seats from seven law schools were offered to be filled by the test.

The results of the first CLAT were announced on May 19, 2008. The second CLAT eleven law schools are participating in CLAT.

The two-hour admission test consists of objective type covering questions on English, general knowledge, basic mathematics, besides legal and logical reasoning.

Before the introduction of the CLAT, the autonomous law schools in India / Universities / conducted their own entrance examinations / State wise Commone test for law schoool admission, requiring the candidate to prepare and appear separately for each examination.

The CLAT form provides the students with a preference list. Each student fills the preference list,according to the colleges he/she desires. On the basis of these preferences and ranks obtained, students are allocated colleges.

Now All law schools in the country could come to an agreement to be participants to CLAT. While the number of participating institutions has increased from seven to eleven from 2008 to 2009, there are still a number of law schools which choose to continue with their existing admission test system by conducting their own entrance examinations.

The Common Law Admission Test CLAT will be conducted for admission to the Undergraduate Programs at eleven National Law Universities and also for the Post-graduate Programs (LL.M) for admission to NLSIU, NALSAR, NLIU, NLU, WBNUJS, HNLU, GNLU, RMLNLU and RGNUL.

Eleven law schools from across the country will hold the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) for nearly 1,500 seats in the five-year integrated LLB courses on May 09, 2010.

3. Last date for submission of filled-in CLAT 2010 Forms: 02nd April, 2010 (Friday)
4. Date of admission test CLAT 2010 for UG/PG: 09th May, 2010 (Sunday) From 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon.

5. Publication of CLAT 2010 Result: 29th May, 2010 (Saturday).

6. Last date of acceptance and confirmation of admission by depositing money in SBI specified branches (to be notified later): 15th June, 2010 (Tuesday).

8. Completion of CLAT Admission Process: 28th June, 2010 (Monday).

9. Commencement of classes: 01st July, 2010 (Thursday).
