Meenakshi Medical College and Research Institute (MMCHRI), Enathur was created in 2003 under Meenakshi Ammal Trust. MMCHRI aims to focus on development of specialized services and in ensuring availability of these services to a wider and most needed population.

The Meenakshi Medical College and Research Institute established at Enathur is located very near to the Temple Town of Kanchipuram. The College has been located close to the Chennai - Bangalore National Highway (NH 4) and is well connected by public and private transport systems. The college is located at about 60 kms from the Chennai metropolitan city and is well connected by all means of transport.

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery or MBBS, as it is known in some countries, is the degree that is required to become a doctor in allopathic medicine. Thus MBBS is not the universal degree that is offered after completion of undergraduate medical courses in all the countries.
