Kasturba Medical
College, Mangalore, opened its doors in January 1955. The Medical Council
of India granted recognition to KMC Mangalore in 1958, with the first
graduating class. Recognition by the General Medical Council of Great Britain
and the Malaysian Medical Council followed soon.
The College was first affiliated to Karnataka University and
later in 1965 to Mysore University, followed by affiliation to Mangalore
University in 1980. Manipal, today, could be a data powerhouse and a name in
teaching. Over 5 decades past, one man, Dr Tonse Madhava Anantha Pai, had a
vision that ensured everything he did then, was consigned to posterity,
ensuring that generation of scholars fancy the fruits of his labour until
eternity on this lateritic upland and also the students can, forever, have one name
on their lips, that of Manipal. Manipal University could be a name to
recollect, not simply across the India, however worldwide. The very fact that
students from fifty two countries area unit learning here could be a testimony
to the present fame.
