The D.Y.Patil Medical College was established in year 1989. It is situated at Kolhapur, Maharashtra. It was started by D. Y. Patil Education Society with the aim to provide best quality education in the field of health sciences. It was earlier affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur and later to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik.

Dr. D. Y. Patil Educational Group is well organized, well focused organization in education and health care systems since last three decades and today stands the hallmark in field of education.

In order to undertake the frontier level research in the field of medical science, the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research has been established in the University. There are at present 14 collaborative faculty members and 20 full time research scholars working under difference projects sanctioned by DST, DRDO, CSIR, New Delhi and BRNS, Mumbai. 

The Centre offers interdisciplinary science research programmes leading to medical research and the Ph.D. awards. To fill up the gap between undergraduate and Ph.D. programme, the University has started two Post Graduate programmes; namely M.Sc. Medical Physics and M.Sc. Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine. In order to supplement these research activities, the Centre has organized number of national and international conferences and workshops since its establishment.

To provide training to the students through education and research in Health Sciences so that they can emerge as competent health care profession with compassion of humanities.

To strive caselessly in pursuit of healthy society, through education, training, research, collaboration and extension activities with the global standards.

Facilities and Infrastructure:

• College campus is spread over 5.5 acres of land. The hospital of college is providing the medical aid to the western part of Maharashtra State, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts of Kokan and some parts of Karnataka State.
• College has well-equipped laboratories for non-clinical subjects, well-furnished classrooms, Seminar Halls, Auditorium, Administrative block etc. The laboratories are equipped with modern and advanced equipments.
• College has excellent, highly qualified, devoted and dedicated faculty to guide the students even outside the classrooms, laboratories and hospital. To promote research activities and awareness among the faculty, there is an active Staff Research Centre, which discusses current research problems in health science teaching, methodology and emerging areas of research in clinical practices on regular basis.
• College library is well-stocked and consists of over 11000 volumes of different disciplines in health sciences. Library has also subscribed to 165 Indian and International journals and 120 e-journals. The Library has 4reading rooms with seating capacity of 200 at a time. The central library is also provided with internet facility for students and the faculty. Each department has its own Departmental Library.
• The Medical College also provides separate hostel facilities for boys and girls. Hostels can accommodate 310 boys and 190 girls. Hostels are provided with excellent facilities. Each room is well-furnished and provided with bed, table, chair, ceiling fan and cupboard. Hostels are provided with security, hot water and the safe drinking water and other basic and modern amenities for students.
