IIST is Asia’s first Space Institute and the first in the world to offer the complete range of undergraduate, post graduate, doctoral programmes with specific focus to space science, technology and applications.
This unique concept took root in January 2007, when IIST was registered as a Society under the Travancore -Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act, 1955. IIST received the approval of the Union Cabinet on 26 April, 2007 and it was formally inaugurated on 14 September 2007 by Dr. G. Madhavan Nair. In a little less than a year of its establishment, IIST received the recognition of UGC as a ‘Deemed to be University’ under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956.
The Institute has the unique mandate of encouraging and equipping brilliant youngsters from all parts of the country to take up a career as Scientist/Engineer in the Indian Space Research Organisation. IIST functions as a autonomous body under the Department of Space, Government of India.
Admission to Undergraduate Programmes (B.Tech) for the year 2013 will be based on the All India Rank List (including category rank list) to be prepared and published for the year 2013 by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). This rank list is based on 60% weightage of score in the Joint Entrance Examination JEE (Main) – 2013, and 40% of normailised score in Class 12th or other qualifying examinations.
IIST currently offers B.Tech programmes in Aerospace Engineering, Avionics and Physical Sciences.

The ISAT 2013 Application Form will have three important events associated with it during the process of applying for the ISAT 2013.
1. Apply ONLINE
The candidates can visit the website- www.iist.ac.in/ for online registration. This portal will be open from the first week of November to the Last week of December 2012.
2. Sending the INSTITUTE COPY of Bank Challan
The candidate has to get the institute copy countersigned by the bank official and sent via SPEED POST in an envelope bearing the REGISTRATION NUMBER clearly to:

The last date of sending this Challan to the ISAT 2013 office will be around third week of January, 2013.

3. Checking the ISAT 2013 Application Form status
The status of ISAT 2013 Application Form can be checked on the ISAT 2013 portal after the last week of February 2013 in order to be assured about the delivery of the form.

After sending the INSTITUTE COPY of ISAT 2013 Challan of the office of ISAT 2013, the candidates can confirm their ISAT 2013 Application Form Status by visiting the official website of ISAT 2013: www.iist.ac.in/isat2013.
There will be a portal to check the ISAT 2013 Application Form Status, where the candidate has to enter a LOGIN ID and PASSWORD. The Registration Number of the candidate will be his/her login-id and the password for the ISAT 2013 Application Form Status check portal will be the same he had supplied at the time of registering for the ISAT 2013.
By checking their ISAT 2013 Application Form Status, the candidates may rest assured that their applications have been delivered and have not been lost or delayed in the postal transit. Moreover, if the candidate has the copy of the speed post receipt, he/she can even track the post and view the immediate of ISAT 2013 Application Form Status while the post is in Transit Only.
However, the Portal for ISAT 2013 Application Form Status check will be opened by the end of February, 2013.

ISAT 2013 Eligibility
- The Aggregate Percentage for the General and OBC candidates is at least 70% in Chemistry, mathematics and Physics and 60% for the SC/ST/PD candidates in PCM in Qualifying Exam.
- The candidates should have made the first attempt at the Qualifying Exam in 2012 or 2013.
- OBC and General category candidates should be born ON or AFTER first week of October, 1988 and the candidates belonging to SC and ST category should be born ON or AFTER the first week of October, 1983.
- Only the candidates belonging to the country of INDIA are Eligible for ISAT 2013.
ISAT 2013 Seats Reservation
Candidates belonging to certain categories are admitted to seats reserved based on relaxed criteria, as per applicable rules of the Government of India. Categories included are:- Scheduled Castes (SC).
- Scheduled Tribes (ST).
- Other Backward Castes (OBC) belonging to Non-Creamy Layer (NCL).
- Physically Disabled (PD).
ISAT 2013 Exam Pattern
- The question paper will be of objective type and will consist of three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
- Each answer is to be recorded on a specially designed machine-gradable Optical Response Sheet (ORS) and evaluated through Optical Mark Reader (OMR).
- The student is expected to choose the correct answer and record his/her response by darkening the appropriate bubble using hard black (HB) pencils alone.
- Marking more than one answer for any given question will render the response invalid.
- The exam duration is of 2 hours.
- Each correct answer will leads to increase in the total by adding 3 marks while each incorrect answer will lead to decrease in the total by 1 marks.
