VJTI - Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute (Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute) is established in 1887, the V.J.T. Institute started with only two departments, namely the Sir J.J. School for Mechanical Engineering and the Ripon Textile School . The present site at Matunga covers an area of sixteen acres. FACTS: The Institute is an autonomous body under control of the Board of Management consisting of 19 members. The Director of Technical Education, Maharashtra is the Chairman of the Board of Management and the Principal of the Institute acts as the Secretary.

In the early days the Institute was housed in Byculla in a building donated for the purpose by Sir Dinshaw Maneckji Petit.

V.J.T.I has highly advanced equipment for training and research in the fields of Mech. Controls & Robotics & Automation.

Accreditation : The Institute is affiliated to the University of Bombay (Degree Courses) and was one of the fourteen institutes selected by the Central Government for further development with grant-in-aid.
