The Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS) is India’s first rural medical college, nestled in the karmabhoomi of Mahatma Gandhi, in Sevagram. It is managed by the Kasturba Health Society. The college was earlier affiliated to the Nagpur University (1969–1997) and from year 1998 it is now affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik. In the spirit of its Founder, the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram today is committed to the pursuit of professional excellence by evolving an integrated pattern of medical education and it seeks to provide accessible and affordable health care primarily to underprivileged rural communities.
Courses
Undergraduate coursesThe institute enrolls 100 students every year. Half of them are from the state of Maharashtra and the other half come from the rest of India. The institute has special reservations for students from rural areas of the country. The institute holds its own premedical test(PMT) examination, which includes a multiple choice questions test on Physics, Chemistry and Biology and a special theory paper on Gandhian Thoughts. The students are selected on the basis of the marks obtained in these exams.
Postgraduate courses
The institute offers Post graduate training in almost all important disciplines of medical science. Admission to these course is based on merit based on the 4 year of under-graduation marks, no post ug test is conducted.
In order to be eligible for the Post Graduate seat in the institute, the student must undergo 2 years of rural service. The institute has numerous centers all across India where students can work as Medical Officers.
The exam notifications for MGIMS MBBS 2013 have been released by the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences. The exam will be held on 21st April, 2013 at examination centers which will be located at Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Varanasi, Delhi and Nagpur.
The MGIMS MBBS 2013 Application Forms will be made available in between 21st December, 2012 and 5th March 2013 at Dean’s Office after remitting the exam fee of Rs. 4000/-.
The candidates can also remit fee via the SBI Bank Challan which will be hosted on www.mgims.ac.in which is the official website of MGIMS MBBS 2013.
