The People’s College of Medical Sciences & Research Centre is affiliated to Barkut-ul-lah University, Bhopal. The college is the result of untiring efforts of the Sarvajanik Jankalyan Parmarthik Nyas. The Nyas has identified Healthcare & Education as a tool for its humble contribution towards the betterment of mankind. The People’s Group under the Nyas is engaged in establishing hospitals for providing the latest and the best possible treatment to the masses as well as imparting education in the field of medicine.

The medical college has received letter of permission from the Ministry of Health, Govt. of India to start admissions in the MBBS course for the session 2005-06.

Also in the campus are, a 450 bedded speciality teaching hospital established in October 2002 and four storied medical college and a residential complex. The 750 bedded hospital attached with People’s College of Medical Sciences and Research Centre.

People’s Group is situated in Bhopal the beautiful “City of Lakes”, capital of Madhya Pradesh. It is run by Sarvajanik Jankalyan Parmarthik Nyas a Charitable & non-profitable Public Trust. Group’s Special Education Zone in Bhopal has Institutions of academic learning that can be compared with the best in the country. Its campus is the largest for education & career building in the central India. Our journey began with an objective of "Nurturing Humanity through Health & Educational Excellence".

People's group has interests in diversified disciplines. The Idea behind the People’s campus is to take a child at the age of four and make him a professional when he leaves the campus at adulthood. The campus has 3 Hospitals with a combined capacity of around 1300 beds and 15 academic Institutions under its umbrella. The overall project is for approx. 150 million US Dollars and will see opening of various other institutions at its campus of nearly 200 acre's in future. The Trust provides free medical services and treatment including the surgical procedures and diagnostic test, food, ambulance services to the poor and needy. Holding free medical and dental camps in rural areas is a regular activity of the Trust. Furthermore the Trust provided scholarship to the poor and meritorious students every year. The Trust regularly give donations to various charitable organizations including government organization. The People's Campus in addition to academic institutions also has a massive housing colony & hostels to cater to nearly 3000 families. The future plans include amusement parks, multiplexes, Malls etc.

People’s Group will very soon have its own University for which it signed an MOU with the State Govt. at the Global Investors Meet held at Indore in September07.
The Group is planning to enter in collaborations with foreign universities. It will ensure students and faculty exchange programs along with twinning programs where the student completes the first two years of education at People’s and then is transferred to the USA or Australian affiliated universities to complete the course. The degree is then awarded by that foreign university.

They, Shri PSG Venkataswamy Naidu, Shri PSG Rangaswamy Naidu, Shri PSG Ganga Naidu, Shri PSG Narayanaswamy Naidu, the four sons of Shri PS Govindaswamy Naidu, went about setting up the trust in a unique and inimitable fashion. They adopted Charity as their fifth brother and divided their ancestral wealth into, not 4 equal portions, but 5, the fifth one earmarked exclusively for Charity.

They realized that illiteracy caused stagnation, insulating the people from the progressive changes taking place all around and left them poor and uninformed; and hence it was at the root of all the ills of society. It performs all routine and special procedures with latest equipments like phaco emulsifier, Green laser to diabetic retinopathy, Fundus Flurescein angiogram with fundus camera , Automatic perimetry to Diagnose and assess glaucoma. Every year camp for cataract surgery and other ophthalmologic disorders and refraction errors are being undertaken. About 1300 cataract surgeries are being done through out this year apart from the 1150 cataract surgeries done in the mega eye camp. Steps are being taken for establishment of eye bank.

In urology almost all routine and latest procedures and surgeries are done, including Ureteroscopy, transurethral rsection of prostate (TURP), all open surgeries including nephrectomy, reconstructive surgeries etc., Extra corporeal shock wave lithotripsy is done to the poor , agricultural patients coming from the surrounding villages, who could not afford. Steps are being taken for renal transplantation, in the immediate future.

The services of the department of gastroenterology is a boon to the rural people with upper and lower G.I endoscopy, Diagnostic and clinical gastroenterology, hepatology services, CT guided procedures including FNAC, etc.,

In the department of Radiology apart from routine procedures with routine infrastructural facilities, the uses of spiral CT is fully available for rural folk.

In additio to ultra sound abdomen, Foetal Doppler, Peripheral vascular Doppler, Echo cardiography services are also made available.

Anaesthesiology department has 4 operation theater in addition to emergency OT & minor OT. Apart from performing routine anaesthetic procedures, emergency airway management in casualty & Trauma care are done by them. All the latest equipment like Boyles, ETCO2 monitor, multi parameter monitor, Defibrillator, latest version of puritan Bennet Ventilators etc. are available . The pain clinic is also run by the department providing painless post operative care, painless labour, painless palliative care etc.

All procedures such as Tonsillectomy, mastoidectomy, septoplasty, myringoplasty, stapedectomy, functional endoscopic sinus surgery [FESS] etc., are performed in the department of ENT. Kanyakumari District is placed at the South tip of India which is one of the important tourist spots in India. TB hospital was started in the year 1937 prior to independence by the Trivancore Cochin Government. TB hospital extended with an area of 100.5 acres.

Government Dharamapuri Medical College, Dharamapuri

The newly-established Dharmapuri Government Medical College on the district headquarters hospital premises here is yet to be equipped with necessary facilities.

With the classes for the first batch of students expected to commence this month, the new college lacks learning equipment, hostels for boys and girls, residential quarters for college staff, library, furniture and various other important facilities.

Though the government has sanctioned over 90 new posts including faculty members for the college, over 75 per cent of vacancies are yet to be filled.

We have not even received chairs and tables. The hostels, which are going to function temporarily in the Tamil Nadu Housing Board's buildings, are not yet ready. The buildings do not even have proper water supply provisions, hospital sources point out.

Though the Medical Council of India had given its approval to start the institution two months ago, the State government was yet to create the facilities for the students, who are going to be admitted in the counselling sessions scheduled to be held in the second week of this month.

Currently, the college has a building to conduct classes. Tenders have been called for to construct more buildings for the college.

But the institution requires more facilities including laboratories for the effective functioning of various departments, people here point out.

Special Secretary, Health, Apoorva, who was here on Friday to review various works taken up in the college, however, promised that all the facilities would be established before the commencement of classes. "Steps have already been taken to fill the new posts through transfers," she said.

Meanwhile, the State government had transferred the College Dean, Dr. Kanagasabai, which, the hospital officials said, might cause delay in the works.
